Marie (Gross) Hamman (90 yr.) passed away peacefully on March 10, 2016 at Central Wyoming Hospice Home and Transitions. She was born on September 14, 1925 to Eva (Lohmann) and August Gross near Wellington, CO. She graduated high school from Wellington High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University. She later received a teaching degree from the University of Wyoming. Marie married John Ashley(Jack) Hamman in May of 1948. They spent the first few years of their marriage between the oil fields of Wyoming and Ft. Collins, CO. She had two daughters while living in Denver, Colorado. In 1959 the family moved to Long Beach CA. Marie was active in the PTA, Girl Scouts, and PEO. The family moved to Casper in 1965. Marie finished her teaching diploma and began teaching social studies at CYJH. Her husband took a job that entailed traveling the Middle East and the couple moved to the island of Malta as their home base. They made many friends and traveled extensively during that time before the family home was once again established in Casper. Marie resumed teaching at CYJH. Marie loved teaching, but retired early to travel with her husband. She continued working as a volunteer in the Wyoming Medical Center Auxiliary, in the office of Grace Lutheran Church, and enjoyed her membership in PEO Chapter AT. Even after Jack died, Marie continued world traveling with her daughters. She especially loved to visit Hawaii. Her last home was Meadow Wind Assisted Living where she made many wonderful friends among the residents and staff. Marie loved music. She sang in the church choir her entire life. She played piano by ear and taught herself to read music. Even when other things were forgotten, Marie still played the old songs by heart. Both daughters became professional musicians and Marie loved attending their performances. She is survived by her daughters, Jean Marie (Rowan) Tichenor and Jane Ann Hamman all of Casper, along with her grandchildren, Dani (Dean) Gallinger of Snohomish, WA; Thad (Paula) Tichenor of Kent WA, Amanda (Jode) Parsons of Casper, numerous nieces, nephews and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her six brothers and sisters and their spouses. Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM on March 17, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church, 315 CY Ave. with Pastor Brenda Frelsi officiating.
