Margaret Handford

June 29, 1930 — March 8, 2016

Margaret Louise Handford passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 8th, 2016 at her daughter's home in Cheyenne, WY. She was surrounded by her family following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11th at 11:00 am at Bustard's Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm at Bustard's Funeral Home. Margaret was born in Gillette, WY on June 29, 1930 to Pearl and Gladys Fordyce and graduated from Thermopolis High School in 1948. She also attended Casper College. Margaret met the love of her life, Phil Handford, in Thermopolis and was married in 1950. Phil started his career in the trucking industry in nearby Riverton, Wyoming where they started their family. They were the proud parents of 4 sons and 2 daughters. In 1964, Phil & Margaret relocated from Riverton to Casper, Wyoming. Phil continued working in the trucking industry and Margaret had a 32-year career with Safeway, while also raising their children. She made many friends and loved meeting the numerous customers she met, especially at the downtown Casper Safeway location. Margaret's biggest pleasure in life was the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She made such an amazing impact on the people she met over her blessed 85 years. She was also an avid sports fan, including her favorites, Wyoming Cowboys, Denver Broncos & Duke Basketball. Margaret is survived by one daughter, Loy Jackson (Marty), of Cheyenne,WY; four sons, Richard (Susan), of Sun City, AZ, Brad (Terry) of Riverton,WY, Les (Linda) of Seattle, WA, and Phillip Scott (Joedy) of Evanston, WY; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Frankie Fordyce (Bettie Jo) of Arizona City, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Phil, in 1997, daughter, Margo Kay, and sisters, Evelyn Bauer and Ethelyn Farmer. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her so dearly. In lieu of flowers, donations to Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne, WY would be greatly appreciated.
