Margaret (Peg) Evans, 91, lifelong Casper resident passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023.
Peg's Wyoming ties began when her grandmother and grandfather homesteaded near Van Tassel, Wyoming, in the late 1800s. Her mom and dad homesteaded west of Casper in the 1920s, ranching and running a dairy. That is where Peg grew up. There was no running water. Also, there was no electricity to their property, so her dad used to hook an automobile battery to a windmill to charge the battery enough that they could listen to the radio in the evenings. They had no telephone for many years. She attended schools in Casper, graduating from Natrona County High School.
Peg married Terrance (Terry) Lincoln, an automotive technician and raised two kids, Richard (Rick) Lincoln and Rebecca (Becky) Lincoln. Peg was very involved in her kids' education, teaching them at home even before kindergarten. As her children grew up sometimes (as a form of discipline) she would open a volume of the Encyclopedia Britannia, pick a random entry and tell the offending child to write a book report about the subject. She was a PTA mom, home room mom and girl scout troop leader. Weekends were spent taking her kids to drag strips and stock car races with her husband. Terry passed away in 1970.
She liked to clean house while listening to music. Peg was a great cook and could make any kind of wild meat taste wonderful. She was also an animal lover, except for snakes. She had to deal with too many rattlesnakes growing up on the homestead. She liked watching NASCAR races, NHRA races and she loved watching football, especially her beloved Broncos, Chiefs and Bills.
Peg worked mainly as a bookkeeper at a few Casper businesses before becoming the manager of an H&R Block office for over 10 years. She finished out her career as the treasurer of Lynx Transport for over 20 years.
Peg married Korean War veteran Darrel Evans and they moved to a ranch west of Casper. They ran angus cattle and some llamas. They were avid bowlers and enjoyed playing on leagues at El Marko Lanes for many years, even bowling in the Senior Olympics. Darrel passed away in 2011.
Peg was preceded in death by an infant daughter, both husbands, her parents and all of her grandparents. She is survived by her children, her grandson, Brion and his wife, Angela, and her great- granddaughter, Taylor, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has already taken place. A private burial was held at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming on Friday, October 20, 2023, where she was interred with her late husband, Darrel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Casper Humane Society, 849 East E Street, Casper, WY 82601.
