Marcille Douglas

Marcille Vivian (Gibbs) Douglas was born February 6, 1920, to Hazel (Fisher) Gibbs and Harvey Gibbs, in New Castle, WY. She grew up on a small homestead ranch 50 miles west on the Cheyenne River, where she was the oldest of her two brother's Vernon and Donald Gibbs. She attended a one room log school house until she was 10. At which time the family came to Casper to live. When she was 17 years old, the year 1937, she met and married Ralph Palmer Hedstrom of Casper. They had 5 children: Donald W. died at the age of 2, Ralph L, Vernon R., David D. and Carolyn B. They were married for 20 years and then divorced. She went to work for the WY State Children's home where she worked for 12 years. She became very attached to the children she cared for, some of those children have contacted her over the years and she was very happy to see them again. In 1974 she married Kenneth Douglas of South Dakota and they moved back to S.D. for a time so he could be close to the VA Medical Center, Kenny passed away in 1984. After Kenny passed away she went to work for an oil Company here in Casper Platte Rod & Pipe, for 15 years. She worked until she was 76 years young. Her hobbies included working in the yard growing vegetables and flowers and she always enjoyed feeding birds and small animals that would come to her yard. Another hobby was that she made scrapbooks for all the grandchildren and others. She would spend hours cutting out just the right picture for each page. All donations can be made to the Humane Society in loving memory of all of her pets. She is survived by 4 children and 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Donald, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death, by her parents Hazel & Harvey Gibbs, two brothers, one that died very young, Carroll W., brother, Vern, her first born son, Donald Wayne that died within two years of birth. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Liberty Baptist Church.
