Memorial Services for Mae Laverne Grimes, age 89, will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, December 5 at Shepherd of The Hills Presbyterian Church, 4600 South Poplar, Casper. Mrs. Grimes died peacefully at the Douglas Care Center on October 27, 2017 following a lengthy illness. She was born June 1, 1928 in Choteau, Oklahoma to Elizabeth S. and John D. Lake. She graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1946. On June 6, 1947 she married James Carlton Grimes. She graduated from Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth with a major in speech and elementary education in 1949. She taught school in Texas for six years. Laverne and Jim traveled to Wyoming on vacation in 1956 and decided to make it their home. Mrs. Grimes taught school in Casper for over 30 years. Most of these years were spent in a sixth grade classroom at Manor Heights Elementary. After retirement, she was a very active member of the Casper Duplicate Bridge Club and went on to earn Her Life Master certificate. Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Grimes. Survivors include her sister, Elizabeth Peterson of North Richland Hills, Texas, daughter, Mona Schaaf (Glenn) of Hamilton, Texas, son, Jimmy Cash Grimes (Carol) of Pinedale, Wyoming, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Laverne's wishes were for donations to the Central Wyoming Rescue Mission, 230 N. Park Street, Casper, Wyoming 82601.
