Luella E. Anson, 89 passed peacefully Friday, October 5, 2012 in Casper, Wyoming at her home. A celebration of her life will be held at Bustard's Funeral Home in Casper, Wyoming on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Viewing hours will be 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM Thursday, October, 11, 2012 at Bustard's Funeral Home. Luella was born August 12, 1923 to Bryan R. and Clara Belle (McMillan) Bird in Eustis, Nebraska, the second of seven children. The family moved to Wyoming in 1925. She attended schools in Midwest, Hiland and Casper's Natrona County High School. The one-room school house at Hiland served many purposes, from Church, Box and Pie Socials and old time dances. Her father, Bryan Bird, played banjo and her Uncle, Ed Bird, played the fiddle and called the square dances. These were great get togethers for fun and recreation. After the tragic deaths of her mother, sister and only brother in a bus/car accident west of Hiland on August 9, 1940, she moved to Ronan, Montana where she graduated from Ronan High School in 1942. Luella worked as a Secretary for the Civil Service Commission (U.S. Army Air Base) in Ephrata, Washington until her marriage to C. A. Boatman of Casper in August of 1944, at Port Orchard, Washington. They then moved to Oakland, California where he was stationed with the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII. After his discharge they returned to Casper, Wyoming. Her only two children were born to this marriage. They later divorced. Luella and Claude G. "Ole" Anson, a Casper native and WWII Navy Veteran, were married, May 2, 1959, in Thermopolis, Wyoming. They made their home in Casper, Wyoming with her two children, Marilyn and Bill, and Ole's young brother, Pete Person. Luella worked as a secretary in various departments of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in Mills, Wyoming from 1949 until her retirement in 1976. She received two cash awards from this agency for superior performance. As a teenager Luella was a member of the Rainbow Girls (Order of Eastern Star) in Ronan, Montana, and later a member of the American Business Women Association (ABWA) Teal Chapter of Casper, Wyoming in 1961. Luella's hobbies included bowling, embroidering, crewel work, cooking and baking. She was noted for her delicious cinnamon rolls and whole wheat bread. She and her husband "Ole" enjoyed many outdoor activities such as rock and arrowhead hunting, fishing, and big game hunting. They took much pride in their yard and in June of 1995 they were awarded the "Yard of the Month" from the Casper Community Appearance Commission. She enjoyed seeing the wild horses roaming and running on the Red Desert. She also enjoyed Country & Western, Blue Grass and Gospel music and regularly attended the Old Time Fiddler's contests with her sister Nellie Holt. Luella will be remembered for her unselfish caring and giving spirit and her delight in doing for others to bring happiness to them. She dearly loved her family and grandchildren and they dearly loved her. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Neal (Ken) of Casper; daughter-in-law, Sherri Boatman of Mills; and Ole's brother, Pete Person (Vickie) of Thermopolis; two sisters, Nellie Holt of Green River, and Mary McLeish of Schuyler, Neb.; grandsons, Jason E. Boatman and Tom Boatman (Kelly), James Branscum (Nicole) all of Casper and KJ Branscum at Ft. Bragg, NC; great grandchildren, Morgan Twiddy of Colorado, Abby and Jake Boatman of Casper; also numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her Mother, sister Lorah and brother Richard, she was preceded in death by her father in 1994; her former husband C. A. Boatman in 1997; a sister Beulah in 1999; her husband "Ole" Anson in 2004; and her son Bill Boatman in 2005. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Diabetes Association, Casper Humane Society, or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
