Louise Froment East, 74, Casper, died Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center. Louise was born on August 24, 1936 in New York City, the daughter of Louise Hoyt and William North Runk. She graduated from Calvin Coolidge HS in Washington, D.C. and in 1966 she graduated Summe Cum Laude from Indiana University in Bloomington Indiana with a BS in Biology. She met her husband, James East in 1955 in Indiana while practicing an internship at the state mental hospital and James was the activities director. They fell in love and joined as partners for life on August 18, 1956 in Washington D.C. They moved to Tokyo, Japan as James began his teaching career at the American School of Japan. The coupled lovingly referred to the 5 years in Japan as their honeymoon. In 1962 they moved to Jupiter, Florida and Louise completed her college education in the summer and later began her career as a High School Biology teacher. In 1976 Louise changed careers and pursued an education in Nursing. She later became an LPN and dedicated the rest of her working life to helping the elderly in several nursing homes in Jupiter, Florida and Ft. Collins, Colorado. In 1985 Louise and Jim moved to LaPorte Colorado after his retirement from teaching. They decided that the new house felt empty and saw an ad in the newspaper for foster parents and called to inquire. 17 years and 15 foster children later, the couple were named the Foster Family of the Year by the Colorado State Foster Parents Association. Louise was a member of the LaPorte Presbyterian Church, the Larimer County Foster Parent Association, the Jupiter Volunteer Ambulance Squad and a 15 year Troop Leader for the Girl Scouts in Jupiter, Florida. She is survived by her daughter, Karin East-Marvin (Bob), Casper; son James East (Louisa), Dutch Harbor, Alaska; son, Robin East, Flagstaff, Arizona; daughter, Lisa Hemlock, Jupiter, Florida and son, Christopher East, Ft. Collins, Colorado; six grandchildren- Jenny, Robby, Christine, Natasha, Dominic and James; sisters Anne Wright and Jane Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, her husband. The family is planning a private service in the summer in Crystal Lakes at the family cabin. Donations may be made to the local hospice or Alzheimer's Association.
