L.G. Wright

Mr. L.G. Wright of Casper, Wyoming, left this world in the comfort of his home with his wife and daughter by his side. L.G. was born to A. Doyle Wright and Minta (Clark) Wright, December 2, 1924 in Pruitt City, Oklahoma. The fifth of seven children, he enjoyed what he called a "Huck Finn" upbringing filled with adventure, love and lots of fishing and swimming. He graduated high school from Brownstown, Illinois and was drafted in the U.S. Army soon after. Ever a good student, L.G. was selected to attend University of Nebraska where he studied petroleum engineering. He served the last of his tour in the Philippine Islands, returning home to his family back in Oklahoma. He looked back at his service as one of the most special times of his life. He briefly attended East Central University in Ada, and then returned to the oil field, which would eventually bring him to the place he loved most, Wyoming. He married his love of 60 years, Louise A. Gordon, January 28, 1956. Through this union, her family became his and both families blended over the years. They had a daughter, Jill, in 1958. Together with Dode Gerdom, they built Gerdom and Wright Inc., a hard banding and oil field service business that evolved in to a Tioga air heater dealership during the big 1980's bust. He never gave up when faced with a challenge, saying, "Let's just try this." Being raised during the great depression taught him to fix instead of replace. L.G. was a Master Mason and avid tennis player up in to his 90's. He loved his family and never missed an opportunity to visit them. He loved Yellowstone Park and said the Tetons were his favorite place on earth. He owned two cabins, one with his partner Dode out of Cody and later a log home on the backside of the Tetons. He loved to entertain and had housefuls come at a time so he could show them God's country. He was well known for growing tomatoes, which he shared with everyone, and keeping one of the most colorful flower gardens in Casper. At the time of his passing, he was making plans to buy land in the Dubois area to be closer to his mountains. His greatest joy came with the birth of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his generosity to all was unparalleled. L.G. was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Olera Hodges, Arlene Johnson and Wanda Rastall; brothers, Ray Wright and Doyle Wright Jr. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise; daughter, Jill; grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah) and Cody Louise; great grandchildren, Tristyn and Hazel; sister, Caroline Sue of Texas along with numerous nieces and nephews. L.G. was a loving, kind and gentle man and the world is diminished by his passing. Services are to be held April 1, 2016 at 2:00pm, at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, WY.
