Leroy York (age 93) passed away at Central Wyoming Hospice on Thursday, October 26, 2017 after a short illness. He was born in Casper, Wyoming on November 6, 1923 to Henry L. York and Jennie A. (Cowan) York. He attended Casper schools, graduating from NCHS in 1941. He worked for the Casper Tribune Herald as a printer apprentice until enlisting into the Army Air Corps in December 1942. During World War II, he served his country in Headquarters Company, 406th Fighter Group, which provided air support for General Patton's Third Army during the liberation of France and Germany. After discharge from the Army in November 1945, he returned to the newspaper as a printer. He played fast pitch softball for the Tribune, Kistler Tent & Awning and Demos Café teams as a pitcher. On March 5, 1950, he married Elaine Harris at the First Christian Church in Casper. In 1968, he purchased the H & G Cleaners on C Y Avenue in Casper, which he ran until he retired in 1988. Leroy was an avid fisherman and hunter. His 18 lb 10 oz German Brown Trout, which he caught at Miracle Mile, was displayed at the cleaners for many years. He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Casper; daughter, Lynne Anthony and son in law, Bob Anthony of Ponca City, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Kristi McCone and her husband, Preston McCone of Edmond, Oklahoma; great-grandson, Andrew McCone and great-granddaughter, Amelia McCone of Edmond, Oklahoma; sister in law, Marge Alm of Casper; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Claude A. York. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Leroy's name may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice. Memorial services for Leroy will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 10 a.m. at The Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, Wyoming. His family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Primrose Retirement Community, to the doctors and nurses in the Emergency Room and 6th floor Neuro Unit at Wyoming Medical Center and to the nurses and staff at Central Wyoming Hospice for the wonderful care given to Leroy. .
