He was stationed in Rhode Island and Port Huenuene, California before going overseas to Okinawa. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned home. He and his wife then farmed in Nebraska for many years. He and his family moved to Douglas, Wyoming in 1957, where he was a truck driver. In 1964 he and his family moved to Casper where he farmed and ranched until 1974. He worked for Boatright/Smith as a trucker. He then bought his own truck and worked as owner/operator until he retired in 1991. He hated retirement so he went to work hauling mail from Casper to Shoshoni and all the little towns and ranches in between. He is survived by one sister, Dee Nichols in Washington, one brother, Darrell Nichols in Texas, 2 sons, Thomas Ray Nichols and his wife, Waynette of Douglas and Dennis Lynn Nichols and his wife, Ernadene of Evansville, daughter, Cynthia Lee Smith and her husband, Terry of Cheyenne, five grandsons, Kevin Stevens, Todd Nichols, Kirby Stevens, Richard Smith, David Smith, 15 great grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, one son and one daughter, four brothers, one sister and his parents. He loved his family and enjoyed his garden. He liked to restore old John Deere tractors and neighbor's lawn mowers. He also loved his motorcycle and enjoyed riding it in the summer. He looked forward to going dancing on Saturday night with his friend, Karen and going out to eat at the Senior Citizen's Center. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Home of Casper.
