LEONA JOHANNA GARMAN Leona was born in Casper, Wyoming at 136 East "J" Street to Henning Richard and Maria Ruth Walters July 3, 1921. She died December 17, 2018, in Casper at the age of 97-1/2 years young. She graduated from NCHS in 1939 and was confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Casper. She was preceded in death by her husband John Kelby Garman Sr., her parents, brother Kenneth Walters and daughter in law Rita Garman, daughter Linda Skinner and granddaughter, Nici Garman. Leona married John Kelby "Jack" Garman in Dalhart, Texas. Leona worked at the Air Base during WW II. While Jack was stationed in New Mexico the family joined him. Jack and Leona had four children: Larry W. Garman (Kathy) of Sidney, Montana; Mary Ann Hoff (Ken), of Casper; John Kelby Garman, Jr. (Barbara) of Casper; and Linda Skinner. They have 13 grandchildren: Larry S. Garman (Jan), Kathy Hill (Jim), Richard Garman (Lori), John Garman, Missy Zipperian (Eric), Debbie Napier (Rusty), Cal Brockway, Vickie Lund (Kurt), Teresa Taubert (Robert), Kevin Hoff (Cassady), Nici Garman, Lindi Garman Collins (Jason), Patrick Skinner (Sandy), Jason Skinner (Tonya), Sheila Taggart (Tate); 24 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, as well as those she considered part of her family, including Jim Parker, opening her home and her heart to everyone. Jack and Leona lived by the Goose Egg for 60 years. Leona was fondly known as "Goose Egg Grandma". She was a charter and active member of the Bessemer Bend/Goose Egg Birthday Club. Leona loved her immediate, extended family and neighbors. Leona prepared a Swedish Smorgasbord each Christmas for family, neighbors and friends. The kids helped with the preparation for the big event-making Lefse, Krum Kaka, Cardamom rolls, Swedish meatballs...making memories to cherish. Leona had a wit and sense of humor that endeared her to everyone. Leona loved cooking, sewing, hunting, fishing, and camping at Bates Creek and the Big Horns. She was a 4-H leader and loved living in the country. She had bum lambs every spring as well as calves, chickens, horses, pigs, geese and more! Leona worked at Sandison's Grocery, Casper Commissary and Albertsons. Leona lived at Garden Square for the past several years and loved and was loved by "her girls," the residents and staff. We sincerely thank Leona's Garden Square family. A celebration of Leona's life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church and will continue at the VFW Club with a Swedish Celebration of her life.
