Lela Knudsen

Lela Frances Knudsen passed away March 9, 2015 in Casper, WY from complications due to dementia. Lela was born February 1, 1926 in Dewey, South Dakota to Ralph and Marie Ellan Hawthorne. She attended Dewey grade school and then moved to Edgemont, South Dakota where she attended and graduated from Edgemont High School in 1943. Lela went on to get her pilots license and was drafted to fly cargo planes during WWII but due to the fact she had then married and had small children she was excused. She married Furnander Lee Berry in Ft. Smith, Arkansas on December 17, 1945 they had three children Ronald, Donald and Ruthetta. Furnander passed away February 5, 1957. Later in April 1958 she married Dean Knudsen in Pocatello, Idaho. Lela worked for McMurry Brothers Construction as a flagger and a packer driver. Lela was also employed at the Children's Home in Casper. Her hobbies included her family and travel. She is survived by; her son Don Berry of Casper, daughter Ruth (Larry) Winzenried of Casper, grandchildren Deana (Glen) Tuttle of Lakewood WA., Jeremy (Michelle) Bowden of Casper WY, Crystal (Bryan) Ochoa of Lakewood WA, Edward Winzenried of Shorline, WA, Jared (Amanda) Winzeinried of Casper, WY, Brandi Berry of Casper and David Berry of CO. Lela was preceded in death by her husbands, Furnander Berry and Dean Knudsen,a son; Rob Berry, parents Ralph and Marie, brothers; Kent, Darrel and Melvin Hawthorne, and sister; Lucille Howell. Funeral services for Lela will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Casper, WY. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9 to 10AM at Bustard's Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs, SD on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 1:00PM.
