Lawrence Potter

January 3, 1942 — June 17, 2011

Lawrence P. Potter, cherished father, grandfather, brother and friend, left this world and went to be with Jesus on June 17, 2011. Despite suffering from cancer for the past year, he remained a cheerful, steady presence in many lives up to the end, showing the warmth and humor that characterized his life. His kind words and free spirit touched many hearts. Lawrence was born on January 3, 1942 in Kirksville, Missouri, to Pete and Iona (Rogers) Potter. He is survived by his sisters, Gloria Fuller, Idie Feathergill and brother, Donald Potter. Preceding him in death was his father and mother, his sisters, Lois Mullinex, Louise Gates, Lorene Massey and Bonnie Thompson; brothers, Pete, Danny and James Potter. Lawrence came to be known as the "Kid Builder" by the age of sixteen. His extraordinary craftsmanship and creativity became his life's calling. Early on he was a regional manager over eleven states for Braden Steel Corporation. Lawrence had an entrepreneur heart and with his brother began his own company, Lawrence and Pete Construction. His innovative work ethic and eye for detail is why people sought him out. His work remains around Wyoming. Casper College was one of the many clients who utilized Lawrence's expertise on several projects, including the Tate Museum. He found great enjoyment collecting antiques and other treasures. Estate and garage sales were no match for the Potter clan. He was also known for his love of the outdoors, which included hunting and fishing. Lawrence looked for any reason to show warm hospitality to family, friends and strangers. He is survived by his five children, Elizabeth Dietz, Brenda Haughey, Brian, Lawrence, Jr. and Nick Potter. Also surviving are three stepchildren, Lisa Johnson, Warren and Roger Broz, 14 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mention of those who were especially supportive of Lawrence should be made. They are Brian Potter, Gloria and Clyde Fuller, Angie Hoven, Stephanie Fuller, staff at Casper Oncology, Wyoming Medical Center and Elkhorn Valley Hospital. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Church of the Holy Family with Jim Dean officiating. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery.
