Kurt Klein

September 10, 1953 — January 30, 2021

Kurt Franklin Klein passed away unexpectedly at his home in Casper WY on January 30, 2021. Kurt was born in Salt Lake City, UT on September 10, 1953 to Fredrick C. Klein and Jannane A. Edmunds.

Kurt was extremely adventurous and had a zest for life many do not possess. He lived fiercely independent throughout his life, his own way. Kurt was born as if he was a cowboy from a different era but unfortunately was deathly allergic to horses. He used to say it was God's irony to be born a cowboy with a horse allergy.  He was a dedicated and beloved father to his son Lucas which was his pride and joy. Kurt was a diehard Raiders fan. #RAIDERNATION

Kurt went into the U.S. Army in 1971. He was stationed in Honolulu, HA. He served as a Sergeant and was Honorably Discharged in 1977 with many medals of honor.

In Kurt's professional life he managed ski rental shops in several states including ours right here in Casper at Mountain Sports. He was also a ski coach and taught dozens of kids his passion. In his words, he was a professional ski bum. Kurt also managed the family fish farm in Granby Colorado for many years, a gravel pit in Glenrock, and also worked for his lifelong friend Dan Miner at his machine shop for many years as machinist. Kurt eventually retired from Tuboscope last year.

Kurt's free time was taken up by many hobbies. First and foremost was downhill skiing. When he raced down the slopes of Hogadon everyone knew that it was him, not many could compare to his speed and grace. He was an enthusiast about the Indigenous Tribes of North America. He spent several years living in the Southwestern States, exploring their cliff dwellings, learning their artifacts, and traveling the migrations. The rest of his free time was spent on hunting and fishing. He was extremely devoted to his hunts and was successful year after year. Fishing was the passion that he and his son (Lucas) shared. He also wrote beautiful poetry and cataloged his entire life through photographs.

Kurt is survived by two sisters, Heidi Cook and Kim Harmon, a brother, Kenneth Cook, Niece's Kaycee Klein and Danielle Nutt, Nephew's, Sean Harmon and Dustin Cook, and Great Niece's, Laila Bramson and Aviana Fields.

He is preceded in death by his Father, Fredrick Klein, Mother, Jannane Edmunds, and his Son, Lucas Klein.
