Kay Okes

October 20, 1954 — August 10, 2012

Memorial services for Kay (Carolyn) Okes, age 57, will be held at Highland Park Community Church on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Kay passed away unexpectedly on August 10, 2012. Kay was born on October 20, 1954 in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia to Sam and Bess Zimmerman. She grew up in Saudi Arabia until moving to Littleton, CO at the age of 13. After high school, she attended Western State College in Gunnison, CO before transferring to the University of Denver. It was there that she met her husband, Mark. The two were married in Denver on August 2, 1975. Kay then moved with Mark to Casper, WY. She began work for the Casper Chamber of Commerce before completing her nursing degree at Casper College. Nurshing was Kay's true passion. She always enjoyed the medical side of the profession, but she excelled at caring for her patients at the emotional level. She would often put additional hours of her own time to help patients and their families. Her favorite position as a registered nurse was at Central Wyoming Hospice. Outside of her career, she was an active member of the American Kennel Club. She had bred and raised several champion Labrador Retrievers as well as German Wire Haired Pointers. She enjoyed spending time with her dogs and family, especially her two grandsons. Survivors include her husband Mark Okes and her son Brady Okes and his wife Megan of Casper, her two sisters Nancy Connerly and Ann Finley and her grandsons Logan and Connor. She was preceded in death by her parents Bess and Sam. IN lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made in her name to Central Wyoming Hospice & Transitions, 319 S. Wilson, Casper, WY 82601.
