Kathleen Aeschliman

Kay passed away peacefully at her home on October 23, 2018, just two weeks short of her 97th birthday. She lived a long, full life devoted to her family and her community. Kay was born November 2, 1921 and was the youngest of eight children born to August and Rosa (Wittwer) Porr on a farm in Richardson County, Nebraska. She attended a rural school which included grades kindergarten through high school. She graduated from Honey Creek High School in 1939. While attending business school in Topeka, Kansas, she met Leonard Aeschliman on a blind date. They were married in Phillipsburg, Kansas on October 11, 1941. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 Leonard enlisted in the US Navy. While Leonard served in the Navy in North Africa, Kay moved to Washington D.C. Kay worked several bookkeeping jobs there and later landed a job at the Department of Agriculture. After the war they continued to live in the Washington D.C. area where their three daughters were born. In 1953 they moved back to Lincoln, Nebraska to be closer to family. While living in Lincoln Kay continued working as an office manager for a home builder and attending to her family. In 1959 Leonard took a job as court reporter for the District Court in Casper and the family relocated to Casper. When her girls were in elementary school Kay worked out of her home doing bookkeeping for several businesses. When her girls got older she began working full time outside the home. She managed an H & R Block office at one point and continued doing taxes for years. Eventually she became part owner and operator of Water Systems Inc. until it was sold. Then she continued working as the office manager for the First Christian Church in Casper until her retirement. Kay and Leonard joined the First Presbyterian Church in Casper in 1959 and were active members. Kay was a Deacon, served as President of the Women's Association, held various offices in the couple's Mariners group and was chief cook and driver for several youth mission trips. Kay was instrumental in starting Casper Day Care, one of the first Day Care Centers in Casper, at the First Presbyterian Church which later evolved into the Casper Child Development Center as it is today. She served on the Board and as the first volunteer treasurer and bookkeeper for over ten years. She also volunteered at Blue Envelope, Meals on Wheels and Central Wyoming Hospice. At a time when most women did not work outside the home, Kay effectively balanced work with devotion to her family. She was actively involved in her daughters' activities throughout their childhood. Kay especially enjoyed time with her daughters and grandchildren playing games and cards. But her greatest joy came from playing bridge. She taught all her daughters and grandkids how to play bridge at an early age. She belonged to several bridge clubs through Newcomers and her church. After her retirement, she was in charge of the "Big Bridge" Club at the Senior Center. She played bridge twice a week even into her early 90's. She was preceded in death by her parents, all her siblings and her husband of 67 years. She is survived by her three daughters, Carole and Kathy Aeschliman and Mary (Doug) Evans all of Casper; her three grandchildren, Jeff (Erin) Hinton of Sheridan, Amy Aeschliman of Casper, and Christa (Billy) Hudalla of Monroe, Georgia. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held for Kay at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 51 Primrose, Casper at 1:00 o'clock on Saturday, Nov. 3rd with the Rev Marvin Skogan officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Central Wyoming Hospice at 319 South Wilson, Casper. The family would like to thank Central Wyoming Hospice for all their help and a special thank you to Kay's two caregivers - Pam and Michelle. Kay was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. We hope someone in heaven is looking for a fourth for bridge.
