JUNE ANN McDANIEL 1923- 2018 CASPER - Funeral Services for June Ann McDaniel to be held at Grace Reformed Church @ City Park, 804 S Wolcott St, Casper Wyoming on Monday, December 17, 2018 beginning at 3PM June Ann (Seidel) McDaniel was born in Casper on October 6, 1923 in the Memorial Hospital of Natrona County, now called the Wyoming Medical Center. She was the middle daughter of three daughters of Herman, "Cy" L. and Hannah J. Seidel She was raised in the house that her Grandfather Edwin Wilson built on Milton Street, attended Grant Elementary School, Casper Junior High School, and in 1940, she graduated from Natrona County High School - "a year early", she liked to say. She then attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie, and while there, joined Pi Betta Phi Sorority. But World War II had begun, so she took a job working in Cheyenne at the Army's Fort David Allen Russel, now Francis E. Warren Air Force Base. Her family wanted her to return to Casper, so she moved back to Casper, and took a job working at the Casper Army Air Field. Here she meets her future husband, Howell, "Howie", C. McDaniel, Jr, an Army-Air Corp navigator instructor and Army Captain. In September of 1944, they were the first couple married in the new sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, Casper. They had three children, John, born in 1945, James, born in 1947, and Robert, born in 1955. When the base in Casper was closed by the Army, the Army re-assigned the young family to Kirkland Army Air Field near Albuquerque. Since there was no base housing, they lived in a one-room building without running water in the mountains outside of Albuquerque. Upon separation from the Army in 1947, they move to Laramie so that Howie could attend Law School. Upon graduation, he opened a law office in Glenrock. But in a short time, he took a position in the Legal Department of Standard Oil in Los Angles in 1951. They lived in Encino, California. In 1953, they decide that they had enough of southern California and returned to what they called "God's County" - Casper. She lived in Casper the rest of her life. They designed and built two houses in Casper; her house at the base of Casper Mountain was designed around being open and easy to entertain in. She loved to host parties there. But most especially, have her PEO chapter members come, have a light lunch while making "flower cards" to sell to benefit the PEO's program for college scholarships for women. June Ann was honored to be elected the President of Wyoming's PEOs for 1973 -1974. As such, she visited every PEO Chapter in Wyoming. A daunting experience as most visitations had to take place in the winter. . Besides being a lifetime member of PEO, she an active member of the Presbyterian Church and severed as a Deacon. One of her greatest thrills was decorating the sanctuary and pallor for Christmas. Several of her decorations are still on display. As young woman, June Ann loved horseback riding with her sisters and cousins. She loved her garden and to feed the numerous Hummingbirds that regularly visited her feeders that she had hung above the deck of her house at the base of Casper Mountain. She never passed-up an opportunity to go picnicking -- especially, if was at Bear Trap Meadow on the "mountain". Her "secret" spot was at the Archery Range. For several years, June Ann volunteered as a Docent at the Ft Caspar Museum, and she delivered meals for Meals On Wheels. Thought out her life, she organized several bridge and gin-rummy groups. And she was a good enough golfer that the men would regularly ask her play with them in tournaments. She never lost touch with her friends and their relatives in Glenrock. After 42 of marriage, Howie passed away in 1986. After she could not drive her car, her nieces and their husbands saw to it that she could go shopping with them at least once a week. Her family would like to thank the Caregivers at Elkhorn Rehabilitation Hospital, Life Care Center, and Garden Square Assisted Living for the services, care, and kindnesses for her while at their facilities. June Ann passed away December 10, 2018 at the age of 95 from an apparent stroke at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. Besides her sons John and Rob, June Ann is survived by her grandsons: Scott and Craig and their families, David; granddaughters, Janelle and Amelia and their families; and her daughter-in-law, Shellie. She is survived by eleven Great Grandchildren. Plus, she is also, survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins across the United States, and even one living in Vienna. June Ann had a wonderfully beautiful life, and continuously lived it beyond expectations. Most especially, she made it clear that life is an adventure.
