Joyce Leona Sloyer passed away June 15, 2024, with her family by her side. Born March 19, 1935 to Fredrick and Meryl Roland Nitsch in Box County, Nebraska, she flourished on the family farm. She loved being with her horses, Border Collies, cats and any farm animal she had. She was close to her Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, cousins and extended family. Joyce graduated from Alliance High School in 1953.
Joyce met Dale “Bob” Sloyer in Nebraska, the two fell in love and were married December 29, 1956. The adventure had just begun! They packed up their car and headed west to sunny California where they started their family. It was in California where they created lifetime friends and enjoyed playing music and square dancing together. Joyce loved music and played the guitar, piano and accordion. She especially loved playing music with Bob and their son, Bruce. In 1969 they started a new chapter, packed up their family and moved to Casper, Wyoming.
Joyce worked at Woods School and often played guitar alongside her son Bruce at school dances. She took great pride in her work at Wyoming’s Agency on Aging knowing she was making a positive impact for the elderly. She was instrumental in the creation of Casper Area Transportation Coalition (CATC). She served as President (and other positions) for the CATC Board of Directors. Mobility for the elderly and people with needs in Casper was very important to her.
Joyce was a collector of antiques and glass, with Murano glass being her favorite. Bob and Joyce could often be seen at garage sales, antique stores and gem shows. Joyce loved oil painting, arrowhead hunting, embroidery, crocheting, gardening, genealogy research, crossword puzzles, cooking and collecting Zebras.
Joyce never met a stranger. Everyone was always welcome to their home, including their Thanksgiving and Christmas table, it didn’t matter if she knew them or not.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband Bob who passed away in 2007 after 50 years of marriage.
Joyce is survived by her son Bruce (Victoria) Sloyer; daughter Jolinda Sloyer, all of Casper, Wyoming; daughter Vicki (Stacy) Carley of Boise, Idaho; grandson Joshua (Christie) Sloyer of Casper; granddaughters Jennifer (Jed) Schrug of Appleton, Wisconsin and Alyssa (Drew) Lockhart of Boise, and brother Tommy DuBry of Norfolk, Nebraska. She also leaves behind eight beautiful great grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, June 21, 2024, 2:00PM at Bustard & Jacoby Funeral Home in Casper, Wyoming. A reception to celebrate Joyce will be held immediately following in the reception and patio area of Bustard’s Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Oregon Trail Veteran’s Cemetery where she will be laid to rest and united with her husband Bob.
