Funeral services will be held for Joyce B. Sims (Joy) at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 30th at Zion Lutheran Church in Douglas. With a visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Church. Joyce Bernie Sims was born in Prineville, Oregon on October 14, 1940 to Louis and Iolene (McCollum) Gerke, the second of three children. She was raised in Prineville and attended school there until moving to California in 1953. She graduated from Cloverdale High School, Cloverdale, CA, in 1958 as salutatorian of her class. She then worked at First National Bank in Cloverdale until moving to San Francisco where she was an accounting supervisor at Crocker Anglo National Bank. She joined the Womens Army Corps where she met and married Dean Radford of Louisburg, NC in February 1964. They had three children: Bernie, Chris and Greig. Dean was an officer in the US Army and they lived in Atlanta, Washington, DC, Costa Mesa, California and Nurnberg, Germany. During this time Joy worked as an accountant. After Dean's discharge, the family lived in Cheyenne and Casper where they lived until Dean's death in 1980. Joy and the children moved to Glenrock where she worked for Pacific Power and Light at Dave Johnston Power Plant for six years. She married Arthur M. Sims of Douglas on January 1, 1986. Joy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she had served as treasurer for many years. She served as president of the Converse County Chapter of Thrivent for Lutherans several years. She also was a volunteer tutor for Literary Volunteers of America and a volunteer income tax return preparer for Tax Counseling for the Elderly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Fred Gallagher, her first husband Dean, her daughter Bernie and her son Greig. She is survived by her husband, Art, of 32 wonderful years and daughter Chris Taylor of Austin, Texas, eight grandchildren-Kristy Fischer and husband Will, Shaun Horrocks, Megan Viverette and husband Joseph, Tommy Allen and wife Amanda, Myria Holt and husband Mark, Caitlin Doyle and husband Derek, Natan Radford, and Madison Radford; eight great-grandchildren-Avery Joy and Ruffin Scartocci, Kanaan Holt and Hailey Holt, Heidi Joy and Joseph Viverette, Reagen Doyle and Blakely Doyle; her aunt Beatrice Brahm of Tigard, OR, sister-in-law Judy Gallagher of Keizer, OR, nieces Jeri Ann Rufener of Keizer, OR and Phoebe Gay Engel of Sacramento, CA. nephews Scott and his wife Janette Gallagher and Patrick Gallagher and his wife Jan of Tigard, OR and several great nieces and nephews. The family requests memorials to Zion Lutheran Church or Central Wyoming Hospice.
