Joseph Emanuel “Joe” Vlastos, 83, of Casper, WY, passed away on November 14, 2023 at his home in Casper.
Joe was born in Thermopolis, WY, to Emanuel George and Mary Vlastos on December 6, 1939. He graduated from Hot Springs County High School in 1957 after being elected Governor of Boys State the previous year. He went on to earn a degree in History from the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he met and wedded the love of his life, Carol Jo Sloan. Joe then attended law school at the University of Wyoming, graduating first in the Class of 1964. Joe practiced law in Casper for the next 55 years. He served many roles in his love of the law, including Assistant County Attorney. He was sought out in matters of medical malpractice defense for 35 years. He also represented people with injuries. He was a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and was nominated and registered as a member of the International Society of Barristers. He served many positions within the Wyoming Bar. With his unmistakable baritone voice and impeccable art of persuasion, his counsel was sought by friends, family, councils, organizations and his church. In 2000 Joe was the fortunate recipient of a heart transplant. He lived his life from 1977 (a heart attack) to his death as if each day was a gift, which he knew to be true. He was an avid reader, primarily of history – particularly Byzantium. His passions included golf, visits to Las Vegas and his father's village on the island of Crete, Greece, and spirited debates at the dinner table. Calm and equanimous, he relished in a good argument!
Joe is survived by his wife, Carol Jo Sloan Vlastos of Casper; his brother, George Emanuel Vlastos; his sons Emanuel (wife Carrie), Keith (wife Kellie) and George (wife Lisa) Vlastos; his nephews Palvo and Lucas Vlastos; his grandchildren: Mazzi, Kleo, Nikiphoros, Elias, Kaliope, Alexander, Joseph and Zoe Vlastos.
