Jonathan Vantrease

Jonathan Michael Vantrease, 30, of Costa Mesa, CA passed away on December 25, 2014 in Costa Mesa, CA. Jonathan, known to friends as Jon or JVT, was born November 24, 1984 in Casper, Wy to Megan (Corbett) Schafer and David M Gould. He attended school in Casper. Growing up in Wyoming, Jonathan liked being outdoors camping, fishing, hunting, and hiking. He learned to ski at Hogadon and later enjoyed snowboarding as well. He had an inquisitive mind and loved science and solving puzzles of all types, especially the mechanical kind. He moved to California in 2004 where he worked as a mechanic and most recently as a tow truck operator for Jim's Towing. He was a certified scuba diver and remembered a family diving vacation to Florida as one of his favorite. Jonathan was always up for an adventure and sought the path less traveled. On one occasion, this resulted in a month long trip to Vietnam where he was happy to experience the culture and cuisine. Friends notably remembered Jonathan's patience and the confidence he instilled in them when he shared his love of snowboarding, rock climbing, or shooting guns. Friends and family knew him as generous and kind with an infectious laugh and a person on whom you could depend. Jonathan is survived by his mother and step-father, Megan and Ken Schafer, of Casper, Wy and his grandmother, Mary Lynn Corbett of Casper, Wy. He is preceded in death by his brother, Cpl Jason Corbett. Services will be Wednesday, January 7th at noon at First Christian Church in Casper with interment following at Highland Cemetery. Funeral services for Mr. Jonathan Vantrease, 30, formerly of Casper, WY, will be held at noon, on Wednesday, January 7th, 2015, at First Christian Church in Casper, WY. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2015, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Bustard's Funeral Home. Jonathan passed away December 25, 2014 in California.
