John Martinez

June 24, 1952 — April 6, 2018

Strong as a bull, John A Martinez, 65, passed peacefully into the hands of God and his loved ones on April 6, 2018 in Casper, Wyoming. John was born to Felix and Valvina (Garcia) Martinez on June 24, 1952 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married the love of his life, Leslie (Kati) Houser on May 22, 1976 in Rawlins, Wyoming. He loved the work he did for Union Ironworkers, Local 454, during his time as an Ironworker, he helped build many structures including Coors Field and The Wyoming Medical Center. He also worked for the Carbon County School District #1 and Sinclair Oil Co. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren his vast knowledge of Wyoming and the surrounding areas and passed on to them his love for fishing and camping. He had a passion for building and creating beautiful artwork, with any materials he could find, as well as had a great interest for history. He was a man who continuously put others before himself and never hesitated to lend a hand to whomever was in need. John is survived by his wife and family; (son) Joshua Martinez; Elizabeth & Addison, (son) Justin (Amber) Martinez; Coda & Xyia, daughter Darcy (Kevin) Ward; Audrey & Maximus, daughter Jeri Ann (Ben) Taylor; Jared and Felix. His brothers Carlos Martinez and Raymond Martinez; Robert & Jerry Kneer. His sisters Christine Nevue and Marie (Mark) Jordan; Jerrod, Krissy & Holly Jordan. His niece Tabitha Martinez; Ana & Maxine. His Father-in-Law Joseph Houser; Jeri (Jerry) Mascarenas, Jeremy & Casey and Joelynn (Roy) Williams, Chris & Virgil. He is also surivived by Roger Hannum, Robert Larson and many close friends throughout the community. John is preceded in death by his parents, (brothers) Felix and Manuel Martinez, (sister) Ruth Martinez, (brother-in-law) Donald Nevue, (grandparents) Raymond & Sadie Garcia, Epifanó & Christine Martinez, (mother-in-law) Vivian Houser. Also various relatives & friends. John was not a man who wanted others to mourn for him, therefore in lieu of a formal service, there will be a celebration of his life this summer.
