John Latham

April 26, 1924 — March 10, 2018

John Ernest Latham, age 93, of Casper, Wyoming, passed away peacefully at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center on March 10, 2018. He was born April 26, 1924 in Santa Barbara, California to Matilda (German) and Emile Mozelle Latham. John served his country as a Staff Sergeant and gunner in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe from 1943 to 1945 earning a Silver Star. He married Virginia Young in 1946. John loved music, playing the accordion in jazz bands, and then switching to the keyboards after an injury impaired his range of motion. He worked as a glazier at Wyoming Paint and Glass before moving to Lee's. More recently he was a greeter at the Eastside Walmart. He loved to golf and was a Ranger at the municipal golf course. He loved taking his great granddaughters to the park and took them often. John is survived by his son, John Lawrence Latham; granddaughter, Tara Soper; grandchildren, Emma and Abigail; brother, Dick Latham; and sister, Helen Cornell. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia, in 1985; and daughter, Vanessa Hurt, in 2015. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Memorial Gardens in Casper, Wyoming.
