John Fredricks

July 8, 1936 — July 5, 2012

John Fredricks, age 75, died July 5, 2012 at Central Wyoming Hospice after a long illness. Born July 8, 1936 in Gillette Wy, to Angel Modariaga and Ruby Rose Stewart. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Lumir Potmesil. He moved to Shoshoni, Wy and graduated from Shoshoni High School in 1954. In High School he was a fantastic basketball player and went on to play in college at Brigham Young University On November 23, 1963 he married Reita Kelly. John and Reita were still going strong after 48 years of marriage. John was a great husband, father and grandfather. Besides the love of his life Reita, he also loved to be active with this children and grandchildren. He had a goofy, fun personality and loved to joke. He rode bikes, played video games, collected baseball cards/coins, fished and did just about anything else he could do in order to spend a little more quality time with his loved ones. He was a Casper Fire Fighter for 29 years, and in those years attained the rank of Captain. He retired in 1994. Being a fire fighter was one of he loves of his life, as well as volunteering his time to the Casper community and Natrona County. He was very proud to call himself a fireman and his family was proud of him. He was also an avid bicyclist, putting in many miles each week to various spots in Wyoming. One of his favorite routes was traveling to Glenrock to meet for breakfast or lunch with his family before heading back to Casper. John is survived by his loving wife, Reita Fredricks, daughters, Valerie Kelly Peak, Kimberly McCoy (Charlie) sons, Michael Kelly (Maureen), Sean Kelly and Steve Fredricks (Danielle), 13 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Potmesil, stepfather Lumir Potmesil, sister Marie Cook, Brother in law, Crash Cook, son in law Patrick Peak, nephews Jimmy and Mark Humberson. Memorials may be made to the Casper Fire Department Burn Fund, or the charity of the donor's choice. Services will be at Bustard's Funeral home Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 2:00 pm.
