After a sudden illness, John Robert Butler died peacefully in Casper, Wyoming on March 5, 2015, surrounded by his family. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 13, 2015 at First United Methodist Church of Casper with Rev. Brian Oliver officiating. Internment will follow at Highland Park Cemetery. John was born on a farm near Lingle, Wyoming on September 24, 1927 to Hugh A. and Helen M. (Randolph) Butler, the fourth of nine brothers. He graduated from Lingle High School in 1945, and the University of Wyoming in 1949, where he was awarded a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics. On September 17, 1949 he married Pansy Anne Beamer of Torrington, Wyoming. They first lived in South Dakota where he worked for the Soil Conservation Service and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. In 1955 they moved to Torrington, where he was employed as an appraiser and later Vice President for the Federal Land Bank of Omaha, now known as Farm Credit Services. There they raised a daughter, Anne Johnson (Michael) and two sons, Robert (Elizabeth) and David (Cheryl) of Casper. In 1976 he retired and began working as a real estate appraiser with Irle Briggs and Associates in Casper. After earning the MAI commercial appraisal designation, he joined his daughter and son-in-law in forming their own real estate appraisal business, Butler Johnson and Associates, in 1980 from which he retired in 1987. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Appraisal Institute, and the Horseless Carriage Club. He loved photography, music, woodworking, flowers, waterfalls, camping, and travel, but his family and antique cars, were his passions. His meticulously beautiful and authentic restorations of seven Fords built between 1915 and 1953, could frequently be seen cruising the streets of Casper. His ever-expanding knowledge, wisdom, love and caring will be sorely missed by both family and friends. John was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years; his parents; three brothers, William, Theodore, and an infant; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Lotus Butler; and his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Butler. He is survived by his children; his brothers Hugh (Virginia) of Montana, George of Virginia, Roy (Jo) of Texas, Glen (Bonnie) of Torrington and Jerry of Florida; his sister-in law Betty of Nevada; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Seton House of Casper or a charity of choice. Condolences for the family may be left at bustardsfuneralhome.com.
