Casper native and life-long resident John Ausich passed away June 10, 2013 at his home in Casper. John was born August 3, 1920 to John and Anna Asich. Growing up in Casper, he attended Casper grade schools and Natrona County High School, graduating in 1938. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Pacific Theatre. He received an honorable discharge in 1946. Following his return to Casper, John began a career with the Standard Oil refinery where he worked as a sheet metal specialist and welder for 35 years. He was a passionate fisherman for many years, developing a broad reputation for fly tying among his friends and co-workers. Upon retirement in 1982, John enjoyed his later years with his family and friends, traveling to various locations in the U.S., and playing golf at Paradise Valley Country Club where he was a member for many years. John married the love of his life, Leda Woody, in 1947. They shared the next 65 years of marriage together prior to Leda's death in 2012. Along with two sons, Ken and Rod, he and Leda lived in their home in Westridge the entire time. John enjoyed coaching his sons and their friends through many seasons of Little League and Babe Ruth League baseball. John is survived by his son, Ken (Ann), daughter-in-law, Rebecca, and grandchildren, Evan, Brandyn, Marco, Royce, Shelby, Logan, and Harrison; his sisters, Matilda Warburton and Barbara Bennett of Casper, brother, Martin Asich of Casper; as well as an extended family of nephews, nieces, and cousins. He cherished being a part of all their lives -- and he was cherished by his family. John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leda, his son Rod, and sisters, Mary and Ann. Memorial contributions in John's name would be welcomed by his family to any charity of one's passion or choosing.
