Joan Schmidt

Joan Beverly Schmidt, age 87passed away on September 3, 2018 from natural causes. She was born February 22, 1931 in Minneapolis, MN. to Leslie and Myrtle Hendrickson. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Physical Education and spent several summers working at the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. It was there that she met her husband Christopher Schmidt, they were married August 8, 1953 and enjoyed 52 wonderful years together. Jo and Chris spent several years in various western states and Canada, eventually settling down in Casper in 1960 where they built a home and raised their two sons, Chris and Erich. They remained in the same home for the past 58 years. Jo was very involved in her community and taught Kindergarten at Grant Elementary as well as teaching at CY Junior High. She was a long standing member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and belonged to various organizations such as PEO and Food For Thought. Jo was a great athlete who enjoyed skiing, tennis and golf through the years. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Myrtle Hendrickson, brother, John "Buzz" Hendrickson and her husband, Christopher Schmidt. She is survived by her son Chris (Redena) Schmidt of Edgewater, Florida and their three daughters, Katilyn Finley, Erin and Abby Schmidt, and her son Erich (Mary) Schmidt of Casper and their five children, Olivia, Luke, Isaac, Adam and Rachel Schmidt and two great grandchildren and her sister Donna. Jo was always known as wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. A memorial service will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran on Saturday, September 22 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Food for Thought or Our Saviors Lutheran both of Casper, Wyoming.
