Joan L. (Grove) Pitts, 84, was called home and given her wings on April 10, 2011 after a long and satisfying stay here on earth. Joan was born on March 2, 1927 in Amarillo, TX to Joseph L. Grove and Edna M. (Seilaff) Grove. She spent the first part of life there before moving back to the family ranch on Casper Creek. She attended Jefferson school and graduated from N.C.H.S, in 1946. On June 21, 1946, she married her partner for life, Russell A. Pitts and never left Casper. Joan worked for Marathon Oil Company in Casper before becoming a housewife and full time mother. Joan enjoyed playing the piano and organ, painting china, and reading books. She was a 50 year Rebekah member, 30 year Home Extension member, the Ladies Auxiliary of First Christian Church, and belonged to various other organizations. Joan also worked later in life for the Casper Art Museum, Bailey School Supply, and Wyoming Stationary. Joan was preceded in death by an infant son Clinton Arthur, her father and mother, and her husband of 56 years. Under the protection of her wings, she leaves behind a son Mark A. and his wife Rhonda K. of Casper, one grandson Russell A. and his fiancée Nicole Landry of Baton Rouge, LA., and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, April 15, 2011 at Oregon Trail Veteran's Cemetery in Evansville, WY. Viewing will be from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Bustard's Funeral Home. Interment will be at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you open your hearts to the Central Wyoming Hospice.
