Funeral services for Jean Elizabeth Simpson, 87, will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, 318 E. Sixth St., in Casper. Mrs. Simpson passed peacefully at Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions, surrounded by family and embraced with love, November 4, 2017. She was born on August 26, 1930, in Olney, Illinois, to Walter and Blanche Casad. She was raised on the family farm, being part of a multi-generational family with her paternal grandparents and parents. Her grandfather was her "buddy" with whom she shared a special relationship. It was on the family farm where she learned her strong work ethic of always keeping busy. It is also where she developed her love of cooking and baking that would follow her throughout her life .She graduated from Noble (Illinois) High School in 1948, where she was active in 4H. In 1947, she married Albert Fearn in Cisne, Illinois, and they had one daughter, Linda (Fearn) Patridge. They later divorced. In 1949, she married Carl Simpson in West Frankfort, Illinois. They had one daughter, Valerie (Simpson) Redmond. He preceded her in death in 2002. Mr. Simpson was employed in the oil field and in 1959 they were transferred to Casper, where they made their home. Mrs. Simpson was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom until 1974, when she began her second career in the retail business. She worked at Grethes until it closed. She then began working at So-Fro Fabrics, where her love of and passion for quilting began. She continued quilting, making countless quilts for family and friends until the last few years of her life. Later, she began working at Sadler's Hallmark, where she stayed until she retired at age 82. She was affectionately known as the little grey-haired lady. After her retirement, Kevin Sadler was kept busy updating the customers as to how she was doing. Mrs. Simpson had been a member of OSL since the early 1960s. She was a Sunday school teacher, church librarian, and had many other volunteer activities. She began quilting with ladies and gentlemen of OSL in the church basement on Tuesdays. They made and donated hundreds of quilts to both overseas missions and local agencies. She was very active in her grandchildren's activities, following all their sporting events and drum corps lives. Three of her grandchildren were Troopers and she spent several years devoted to the corps. She would travel, as a bus grandma, sewing and baking for the Christmas house, and helped take the sheep wagon on tour. She and her husband attended drum corps finals from 1987 to 1993. Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lucille; as well as her husband; and her grandson, Kevin Redmond, in 2012. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Russell) Patridge, Danville, California, and Valerie Redmond, Santa Maria, Caifornia. She was beloved by grandchildren, Michael (Jean Ann) Patridge, Jason Redmond (former wife Erika), and Erin Redmond; ten great-grandchildren also survive, Katie, Lizzy, Allie and Jenna, Annalisa, Cody and Jordan, and Ashley, Andrew and Abby. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions or Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. We will tell your story.
