Jean Bergquist

September 25, 1925 — January 14, 2013

Jean Bergquist passed quietly into eternity at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center, Casper, Wyoming, on January 14, 2013. She was born Dorothy Jean Ogden on September 25, 1925, in Winfield, Kansas. Plagued with asthma, she and her family moved to Albuquerque New Mexico, during her adolescent years in hopes that the high, dry climate would alleviate the symptoms of her illness. In Albuquerque she met Rey Bergquist, the man who would be her constant companion, loving confidant and faithful husband for nearly 70 years. Together they built dreams, homes, businesses and a devoted family that gathers at this time to honor and remember the gifts Jean so unselfishly gave and a life well lived. That family includes 4 sons, Kenneth, Brice, Glenn and Dale, and the wives, children and grandchildren that have each been blessed by the inclusive love and affection Jean gave so freely. Many of Jean's 87 years were spent in New Mexico where she and Rey built a series of successful businesses that allowed them to work and play together. From the drive-in restaurant they started in Albuquerque during their early married life to the locksmith shop in Farmington where they lived for nearly 40 years after their family was raised, Jean was always there to support, encourage and help carry the load. Jean's passions included square dancing, participation in state and national locksmith associations, membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, worship, her family and Rey. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Dale; a brother, Phillip; two sisters, Peggy and Eleanor; grandson, Chad; and great-grandson, Austin Lolmaugh. She is survived by sister, Billie; husband, Rey; three sons, Kenneth, Brice and Glenn and their wives; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Final arrangements are being handled by Bustard's Funeral Directors and Crematory in Casper, Wyoming. A memorial service will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, 318 East 6th St. in Casper at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 22.
