Jasper Hill

June 15, 1924 — October 29, 2011

Jasper "Jay" Earl Hill passed away on October 29, 2011 at Central Wyoming Hospice. Jasper was the third child born on June 15,1924 to Gertie Robbins and Elmer Hill of Provo, Arkansas. At the young age of 5 years, he lived with his Grandma Amine Robbins and Uncles Jim and Elmer Robbins in Glendo, WY. While going to school and working in his teens, Jasper traveled to the Mesa Theater in Douglas, WY where he met the love of his life, Joyce Darlene Hill. They were married on September 7, 1947 in Casper, WY. They were inseparable throughout the years. Jasper and Joyce welcomed a son shortly after their move to Casper. Five years later they welcome a daughter into this world. Jasper and Joyce, with their children Gary and Reggie eventually moved to Evansville, WY. They remained in Evansville for 49 years. Jasper worked throughout his life at various companies. Jasper also had his own trucking business, "J&J Trucking & Auto Repair." He retired in 1987. Jasper worked as a mechanic and truck driver even into his retirement years. He loved to travel the roads as a driver. His other great passion was working with engines and he was often the answer to many a family member's prayers when broken down. Jasper never expected payment and lovingly helped anyone in need. Jasper loved to go fishing. Joyce and Jasper took many grandchildren, family, and friends on fishing trips throughout Wyoming. If Jasper was ever missing, he could be found fishing. Jasper joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Asiatic Pacific area, American area, Philippine liberation and World War II victory on the USS Maryland battleship BB-46 from 1941 to 1945. He was present at Pearl Harbor and his battleship was one of the first to return to the seas after the attack. Even after the years of service to our nation, Jasper continually refused assistance as he often said, "I chose to go. I joined the service. They don't owe me anything." He was the true definition of a hero. Jasper was proceeded in death by his brother Herbert Lee Hill, his parents, his sister Juanita Ruckman of Tulsa, OK, great-granddaughter, RuthAnne Hawksley, son, Gary Lee Hill, and wife, Joyce Darlene Hill. Jasper is survived by his sister Roma June Hamlow of Glendora, CA, brother Neal Hill, of Arkansas, daughter Reggie Jordan and husband Larry Jordan of Casper, daughter-in-law, Antonia Hill of Evansville, sister-in-law, Carol Borkowitz of Cheyenne, and brother-in-law, Larry Brimmer of Salt Lake. Jasper has eight grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren who will miss him beyond words.
