Jason Long left this earth to be with his Lord and Savior on August 13, 2014. He died following an extended fight with pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 18th, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 10:00 a.m. with burial at the Oregon Trail Veteran's Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 pm until 7:00 PM. Jason was born on February 22, 1941, the fourth and final son to Clyde and Selma Dorothy (Manning) Long at the Community Hospital in Elk City, Oklahoma. Jason grew up on the Otis Long homestead in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma, until age 9, then the whole family moved to Laverne, where both his mother and father taught school. Further moves were to Campo, Barnesville and Uravan, Colorado. Nucla High School served the Uravan area and in his third year there, joined the US Navy, where he served 4 years. While in the Navy, Jason served off the east coast on aircraft carriers, and then finished his service in the Mediterranean on the USS Alameda County AVB 1 (LST 32). After his naval service, he worked in the oil patch for 50 years. He began his career as a roughneck, worked for Schlumberger as wireline operator, and for the last 36 years worked as an experienced directional driller for Baker Hughes Inteq. His work took him to all parts of the world, but his favorites spots were Italy and Alaska. On November 19, 1967, Jason married the love of his life, Yvonne Dye, in Cut Bank, Montana. They were blessed with two sons, David and Nathan. Jason enjoyed spending time with his family, most recently, his two granddaughters. He also enjoyed attending his annual LST 32 reunions. Flying was his passion. Jason got his pilot's license and bought a plane. He is survived by his wife, both sons, daughter-in-law Michelle, and two granddaughters, Nathellia and Briella. He is also survived by his brothers Roger and Bruce and numerous nephews and nieces. Jason was preceded in death by both of his parents and brother, Wayne.
