Janis Nielsen

Janis Joanne Nielsen age 78, passed away on the Sunday morning of October 27th, 2019 at Central Wyoming Hospice, following a brief illness. She was born on March 24th, 1941 to Lester and Estelle Fry in Gray's Kentucky. In 1960 she graduated from nursing school in Lorain, Ohio. She spent the next few years working as an LPN in Ohio and Michigan, prior to moving out west with her friend, choosing Wyoming over Alaska because she heard of our pretty moons. She was working at Wyoming Medical Center when a friend introduced her to Harold Nielsen. They dated for four years prior to their marriage on January 15th 1973 and shared 46 years of marriage, as they loved each other and stood by each other. While Jan stayed at home to raise their children, homeschooling all of them, she was actively involved in Child Evangelism Fellowship, where she established one of the first after-school Bible clubs at a public elementary school in Bar Nunn. She also taught Sunday School and Children's Church and ministered to many neighborhood children, some becoming like family. Haley was especially close. She is survived by her sister Freda Tullis; her four children; Rachel Sullivan, Sandy Elston, Peter Nielsen, and John Nielsen; eight grandchildren; Sarah and Christopher Sullivan, Cooper, Caleb, and Jerzie Elston, Blake, Justin, and Alexis Nielsen; as well as her husband. Visitation will be October 31st, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church, prior to the funeral service at 11:00. There will be a brief graveside service at Highland Park Cemetery and a reception to follow at Mountain View Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship of Wyoming, or Central Wyoming Hospice."
