James "Jim" Macormic

May 17, 1962 — July 2, 2020

James Dean Macormic, age 58, passed peacefully over to heaven July 2, 2020 at the Wyoming Medical Center after a 10-day battle of Cancer. Jim was born in Rolla Missouri to Floyd and Martha Macormic. That same year the family moved to Edgerton Wy. Jim graduated from Midwest High School in 1980 as a proud Oiler. His high school years were full of wild, dangerous fun. Many remember him as Mac and have shared stories of his wild and crazy days. After high school surprisingly to all, Jim attended Sheridan College for Law Enforcement. During this time, he met his love of 40 years, Penny. In 1983 they married and made their home in Kaycee Wy. Jim became Chief of Police; he loved this job but due to many family members getting tickets for breaking the law {including his wife} he decided to try his hand as a City police officer in Lusk Wy. In 1990 he landed a job as Deputy Sheriff for Converse County, living in Glenrock. He had found his calling, he loved his co-workers, boss, local ranchers and the community people. Jim is well known for his quick wit, practical jokes, and great laugh. No one was safe from his humor. He was always 3 steps ahead of the next guy in planning a fun time. Many people have shared stories of Jim's successful pranks. His legacy will live on.

Jim decided to try his hand at being a Union Pacific Railroad Conductor. He loved trains and hauling Powder River Coal. He was employed by the railroad for several years which brought many great family friends into his world. Jim has also left behind many stories of his jokes and humor. He knew no strangers, no one was safe from being included in his mischievous shenanigans. He had plans of retiring with the railroad but in December he found himself furloughed with the decline of coal. Jim once again found a job that he enjoyed with Woods. This job allowed him to travel the back-country roads and visit with ranchers. Two of his favorite past times.

We will all remember Jim for his athletic ability. There was no sport he couldn’t play and win at. Jim was very competitive; he could tell you team rosters and scores from games dating back years ago. Regardless of if it was high school or pro. He loved watching his boys and local children at sporting events. The boys were his pride and joy and he will always be their hero.  He was a die-hard Wyoming Cowboys fan and for all of you Cowboy fans, think about this- 7220 was Jim’s day of passing, which is also the elevation for the Wyoming Cowboys stadium. Although he loved the Cowboys, he also loved the Raiders from childhood.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Floyd Macormic, Martha Macormic, Stepfather Carl Vroman, Mother in law Della Long and two sisters Peggy and Shirley.

Jim is survived by his wife and two boys Eric and Colter Macormic. In 2018 he gained a daughter in law, Stephanie. She had him wrapped around her fingers in no time. He enjoyed being around his kids. He leaves behind one brother Lonnie Brockman (Debbie) and one sister Joan Brown.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday July 31, 2020 at 5:30PM at the Glenrock High School Football Stadium. We will be sharing stories of Jim and his fun life. So please bring a few to share. Dress accordingly to outdoor weather.
