James Leonard McCumber, Jr.

James (Jim or Mac) Leonard McCumber, Jr., age 76, of Casper, Wyoming, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 2:00 pm at The Hanger in Bar Nunn, Wyoming.

Jim was born May 4, 1947 in Pueblo, Colorado. He grew up in Butte, Montana and then the family moved to Alamosa, Colorado.  He graduated from Alamosa High School.  Jim served as a Sargeant in the Vietnam theater from June 1967 through January 1970 as an airplane mechanic. 

Jim had a successful career in mining, oilfield and construction sales. He was honored several times as salesman of the year.  He served as a Bar Nunn councilman for several years.  He loved to fish and hunt with his buddies BJ and Jeff.  His other major love was gardening.  His garden was admired by the community and he enjoyed visiting with his neighbors about garden care. 

He is preceded in death by his parents James and Iva McCumber and his sister Sandy Hazzard.  He is survived by his wife, Shannon, children Samantha Andrus-Henry, James (Tina) McCumber, and Riley (Katherine) McCumber and eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His surviving siblings are Janice (Lester) Chappell, George McCumber, Kenneth McCumber and Lynnette (Dan) Michels.  He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. We will all miss his generosity, kindness, sense of humor and playfulness.
