James Armstrong

March 23, 1949 — October 8, 2015

James Trevelyan Armstrong was born March 23, 1949 to Frank and Mary (Meyer) Ritenberg in Dunkirk, New York. One of his happiest memories and first job was sampling Chocolate milk in his grandfather's lab. His grandfather, Bruce Ritenberg, was the founder of Nog, Inc. After his father passed away in 1955, his mother married James E. Armstrong who adopted all three children. They moved to many cities during his Air Force career. Jim graduated from Douglas High School in Rapid City, South Dakota and came to the University of Wyoming on a water polo scholarship. He was a member of the TKE fraternity. While in Laramie, he met and married Cindy Palmer. He was a graduate of the University of Wyoming with a degree in Math and Natural Sciences. After one year in Douglas, they moved to Glenrock, Wyoming in 1977 and built their home. Jim and Cindy had two sons, Casey of Glenrock and Sam of Rosedale, Maryland. Jim worked for Exxon, the Glenrock Police Department, the Wyoming Highway Patrol and the Converse County Sheriff's Department until his retirement in 2012. Jim served on the Glenrock school board, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Christ Episcopal Church. If you knew Jim, you knew of his love of hunting and fishing in Canada, Alaska, and especially Wyoming. He was an avid runner and athlete, participating in many races including the St. George Marathon with his brother in law, Robert Palmer. Preceding him in death were his parents and his older brother, Tad. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, his two sons, Casey and Sam, his sister Barbara (Vic) Tise and many beloved nieces and nephews. Memorials to honor Jim may be made to the Wyoming Highway Patrol Scholarship Fund at PO Box 2134, Cheyenne, WY, 82003 or the ALS foundation. The family wishes to thank Lincare and Sharon's Home Health care for their excellent help, allowing him to remain in his home. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, October 12, at the Glenrock High school at 2:00. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 at Bustard's Funeral Home in Casper.
