Jacqueline Tempest

August 4, 1924 — December 3, 2011

Jacquie Tempest, 87, of Casper passed away December 3, 2011 at Central Wyoming Hospice after a short illness. Jacquie, was born August 4, 1924 to Richard and Maude Shadford in Denver, Colorado. She attended schools in Denver and graduated from East Denver High. She then attended Carleton College for 2 years, graduating from Denver University in 1946 with a BA in elementary education. She taught in the Denver elementary schools for 3 years. Jacquie married Don Tempest August 14, 1947. They moved to Casper in 1949 when Don took a job with Raab, Roush and Gaymon, a CPA firm. Upon arrival in Casper they lived in the Westridge area, moving to Lynwood Place in 1956, where Jacquie lived in her "Little Red House" until moving to Primrose Retirement Community in December 2008. Jacquie was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and Altar Guild. She also enjoyed her memberships in Pi Beta Phi, PEO, Casper Service League and the Casper Country Club, where she was active in the Ladies Golf Assn and assisted with the Junior Golf program. Jacquie and Don enjoyed life with their friends and family .....picnics on the mountain, camping, traveling and golfing. Don was killed in an automobile accident in 1966. In 1967 Jacquie became the Headmistress of the St. Mark's Day School, a position she held for 18 years. She always enjoyed seeing her former students in later years. In addition to teaching pre-school, Jacquie had a great time working at J'Cor Gift Shop in downtown Casper and tried not to spend all her paycheck on the inventory. Jacquie was a collector, a collector of liqueur glasses, Spode Christmas china, teddy bears, Christmas ornaments and of course, friends. She had two passions: gardening and Christmas. She loved working in her garden at home and the St. Mark's flower, garden. The gardens were always well kept, bright, cheery and definitely weed free. Her love for flowers carried over to the work she enjoyed so much with the St. Mark's Altar Guild. Then there was Christmas, Jacquie LOVED Christmas! She loved decorating her house with wreaths, Santas and two trees loaded with ornaments. The Christmas season at Jacquie's also included her Salty Santa party, there is no doubt when one left her Christmas House they were definitely in the Christmas Spirit. Finally, for Christmas, Jacquie would decorate her crab apple tree in the front yard with 100' s of sparkling lights, this was her Christmas present to her wonderful neighbors on Lynwood Place. In addition to her many travels back East to see her family, Jacquie enjoyed her travels to England, Greece, Mexico and Africa. She also enjoyed golfing and cross country skiing with good friends. Most of all Jacquie loved the Grand Tetons. She truly enjoyed spending time there with family, staying at Dornan's Cabins in Moose and sharing picture time at the "Family Tree" on the shores of Jackson Lake. Jacquie was a proud Mother of her two sons Robert and Rick. She was an especially proud grandmother to Rone and Patrick, who loved calling her Big Grandma J. The last couple of years, her great grandchildren, Ava and Kieran were a real bonus, she always looked forward to their visits. Jacquie was preceded in death by her husband Don, parents, brother Dick and sister Muriel. Jacquie is survived by her sons Rick (Donna) of Casper and Robert of Salem, Ma. She is also survived by her grandsons Rone (Lindsey) of Casper and Patrick of Burbank and great grandchildren Ava and Kieran. Also surviving are her nieces and nephews, Jacquie loved the many fun times with them. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Bustard's Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Pastor Phillip Major officiating. A reception will be held in the St. Mark's Parish Hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Central Wyoming Hospice or St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Jacquie's family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Jason Lloyd and all of the caregivers at Primrose Retirement Community, Wyoming Medical Center, Life Care of Casper and Central Wyoming Hospice for their special and compassionate care given to Jacquie these past few months.
