Jack Bartenhagen

April 10, 1927 — June 18, 2015

Jack Alfred Bartenhagen passed away on June 18, 2015 in Casper. He was born on April 11, 1927, in Payette, Idaho to Carl and Olive Bartenhagen. He was raised and attended school in Emmett, Idaho; the first six years were in a one-room brick schoolhouse with all eight grades. He joined the U.S. Navy in May of 1945 and received an honorable discharge in 1946. He worked almost a year for both Gem County and then the Bureau of Reclamation; he worked two more years at a Safeway store. He started to work for Mountain States Tel & Tel Co. on March 22, 1951,in Boise, Idaho, and transferred to Wyoming in 1953, working in various places until histransfer to Casper in November of 1955. He was cub master for Willard Elementary School for two years, a past president of Moming Tour Toastmasters, a Little League manager for five years, an assistant coach for Midget Football for four years, and a past president of the Telephone Pioneers of Thunderbasin Club and Life Member Club. On December 4, 1976, he married the love of his life, Marie O'Briant, who he always appreciated for the way she took care of him. His hobbies included: photography, gardening, trapshooting--earning first place by hitting 196 of 200, and he was an avid golfer, earning a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and squirrels and playing pool with his friends at the Senior Center. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, an infant son in April of 1956 and his step-son Keith O'Briant in May of 2008, and also his grandson, Jeff Box in 2014. He is survived by his wife Marie, daughter Sonja Box (Missoula, Montana), his son Craig Bartenhagen (Des Moines, Iowa), his sister Shirley Harbin (Cary, North Carolina), step- son Dustin Pape (Salt Lake City, Utah), step-daughter Vicky Greaney (Helena, Montana), step-daughter Patty Flack (Mitchell, South Dakota), several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
