Irene Marie Sutherland, 87, passed away August 26, 2015, at the Wyoming Medical Center after a sudden illness. Irene was born February 20, 1928, to Timothy and Eva Cuskelly in Dickinson, North Dakota. She graduated valedictorian from both Killdeer High School and Dickinson State Teacher's College. She spent the majority of her teaching career in the Natrona County School District serving as a teacher first and then later as the librarian for Westwood Elementary School. She was active for years in the Natrona County Spelling Bee. On August 2, 1957, she married Tom Sutherland in Sidney, Montana. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Together they raised four sons. Irene dedicated her life to educating her children. She made sure they walked the straight and narrow (at least when she was within striking distance). She was passionate about her grandchildren. She loved to cook, and many family functions were centered around her meals and especially her desserts. Irene loved watching and participating in sporting events, and rarely missed an opportunity to watch her grandkids in their various activities. She was an avid jogger, running even after she got an artificial hip at the age of 86. She enjoyed watching her beloved Denver Broncos and Notre Dame football games. Irene is survived by her husband, Tom; her four sons, Thomas Shannon, Shaun (Scotia), Shane (Karen), and Sharman (Elaine); and her five grandchildren, Jai-Ayla, Chae, Taj, Adam, and Rachael. She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima for the past 56 years. A private mass was held for family on Saturday, August 29, at Our Lady of Fatima.
