Irene Stark

February 19, 1921 — June 3, 2019

Irene Miriam Stark Everyone who knew and loved Irene called her Nanny. Nanny was born February 19, 1921 in Birmingham, England to William and Kate Kemp. While serving in the Women's Land Army during World War II, Nan met Edwin Stark who was serving in the US Army with the Military Police. They were married September 22, 1945. When the war was over, Nan left her home in England and traveled all the way to Wyoming to be with Ed. They lived at Pump Station 3 in Baroil, WY where she became the camp cook and learned to be one of the best bakers there is. They endured the winter of ‘49 while in Baroil as well. In 1951 Nan became a US Citizen. Ed and Nanny settled in Casper, where they raised their four children. Despite her small stature, everyone knew whatever Nan said, you did. She loved all children and always had an open door to anyone. You would be hard pressed to find someone without a fond memory of her cinnamon rolls, pies, or brownies. Donut Day was always a favorite after school treat. Throughout the years she became a mother and nanny to far more people than those related to her by blood. Whether you walked on two legs or four, she always took in strays. Nan taught us all what a gift life is and truly lived each day to the fullest. She loved flowers and spent hours tending her garden. The greatest joy of her life was her family. She is preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, husband and one grandson. She is survived by her youngest brother John (Mandy) of England, daughter Pat, daughter Carol (Dennis), son Rob, son Mike (Nikkie), eight grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren plus extended family at home in England. Services for Nanny will be at the Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, WY on Monday June 10 at 1000. Reception to follow at her house, 2521 Belmont Road. She was dearly loved by all of her family and will be greatly missed.
