Irene Spieles, 90, of Casper died February 10, 2014. She was born July 27, 1923 in Chadron, NE , the first child of Pat Ogle and Ruth Harrison Ogle. Her family moved to South Dakota in 1925 living in a country log house between Oelrichs and Pine Ridge. Irene attended schools in South Dakota and Nebraska, graduating from the Chadron College Prep School in 1941. In September, 1941, she began nurses training at St. Anthony'S Hospital in Denver, CO. In March 1942 she met a young patient at the hospital named Earl "Sharkey" Spieles, a student at Colorado School of Mines. They married April 1, 1943. After graduating in 1943, she continued working at St. Anthony's Hospital. Her husband enlisted in the Army Corps of Engineers and was sent overseas in early 1944 to the China- Burma-India Theater. After the war, her husband resumed his studies at the Colorado School of Mines while she continued to work at St. Anthony's. Her husband graduated in 1948 and took a job with Ohio Oil Company in Grass Creek, WY, a small oil camp of a few hundred people where Irene was the unofficial "town nurse". In 1953 the family moved to Casper, WY where Irene kept busy raising her 4 children, being a Brownie Scout leader, room mother, early volunteer with the throat swab program and Little League Baseball mom. In 1960, after her children were all in school, she went back to work as an RN at the Casper hospital, retiring in 1976. When her husband retired they spent the winters in Mesa, AZ and summers in Casper. They traveled extensively throughout North America and Europe. Irene enjoyed oil painting, ceramics, swimming, GOLF and, most of all, her family. She is survived by her four children, Pat (Carol) Spieles of Loveland, CO, and Mary Jo Johnson, Kathleen (Glenn) Fullerton and Mike Spieles of Casper. In addition she is survived by her sister Marge Fowler of Ketchikan, Alaska. She was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, brother, Don Ogle, parents, Ruth and Pat Ogle, grandson, Peter Johnson and great grandson, Riley Stukey. Memorial contributions in Irene's name to Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions, 319 South Wilson St. Casper, WY 82601 would be appreciated by the family. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 15th at The Riverside Center, 949 North Durbin Street, Casper, WY
