Ira "J" Garnier, 73, was called to heaven on October 28, 2016 surrounded by loving family and in the wonderful at home hospice care for COPD. J was born in Centralia, Illinois to Ira J Jr and Bernice Garnier. He married Juanita "Kay" Grathwohl June 5, 1962. He moved his family to Casper in 1970. He worked for the telephone company, retiring after 32 years, his first 27 years he worked in the Casper area. In February 1997 he took the management position in Cody, his area was Cody, Powell and Yellowstone Park. Later, prior to retirement he also had Dayton, Ranchester, Sheridan, Story and Buffalo. In 2002 he moved back to Casper as all of the family remained there. He served as a proud member of the U.S. Army Reserves and was a proud member of the National Rifle Association as a life member and benefactor. For years he went camping on the weekends from May through October; ending each year with annual antelope, deer and elk hunts. After retiring to Casper he spent time camping on Casper Mountain, riding his horses and later ATVs. His most treasured time was spent with family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years; his son, Ira Joseph Garnier IV (Jennifer) ; daughter, Julie Kellch Sauer (Vern) ; son, John David Garnier (Shanna); seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; he has eight little ones under age nine and all living in this area. His pride and joy! He was preceded in death by loving parents and grandparents, a son-in-law, two special brother-in-laws, a nephew and a great nephew. Funeral services and military honors will be held at Highland Cemetery. Rosary will be held today, November 1, 2016 at Bustards Funeral Home officiated by Fr. Thomas George of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.
