With heavy hearts we have said our final goodbyes to our father, husband and friend, Hurley Deloy Hansen. Hurley, 79, passed away on November 17, 2017, at his home in Casper, Wyoming, from complications of Alzheimer's. Hurley was born on November 3, 1938, in Boulder, Utah to George and Erna (Hall) Hansen. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard. Hurley is survived by his wife of 57 years of marriage Margo (Harding), adoring daughter, Nicole (Alex) Ramos of Lehi, UT, devoted daughter, Heidi Hansen (Rob Payton) of Casper; grandchildren, Brandon (Monique) Bjornson, and Matthew Bjornson; and Brandon and Matthew's father, Michael J. Bjornson. Survived by his brother, Dewey (Twila) Hansen of Salt Lake City, UT, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Hurley was born at home in Boulder, UT. After moving to Cedar City, UT during his youth, he graduated from Cedar City High School in 1957. He met his wife, Margo, while in high school in Cedar City. He attended and graduated from the College of Southern Utah in Cedar City in 1959. Hurley and Margo were married in Cedar City in August 1960. Hurley and Margo moved to Logan, Utah where Hurley graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Utah State University. After that, Hurley and Margo moved to Salt Lake City where Hurley taught school and received a Master's degree in Math from the University of Utah. Hurley was active in the Utah Education Association (UEA) and served as the first two-year President. He also served on the Utah State Retirement Board. Hurley was a lifelong educator and loved all aspects of teaching. He retired from active teaching in the early 1990's. Hurley's strong work ethic started at a very young age, as working on the family ranch was a necessity. He was a self-taught cook and augmented his beginning teacher's salary working evenings as a short order cook. He also worked many summers for the U S Forest Service and made life-long friendships with other teachers and Forest Service professionals. As an educator, Hurley spent countless hours tutoring students needing extra help, as well as the neighborhood children. Hurley also worked with homebound students. Hurley enjoyed many activities, above all spending time with his family. His pride and joy were his grandsons. The family spent many fun years at the family time-share in Snowbird, UT and at family reunions in Boulder, UT. The family enjoyed travel in many forms including sea cruises, road trips, and camping. He was an exceptional gardener and developed several garden plots over his life-time. One plot was done with his friend Pete Peterson, where they raised over 500 tomato plants one season, selling them to a local restaurant where they enjoyed the fresh vegetables. Hurley enjoyed camping with the family. Due to his Forest Service experience, weekend breakfast cookouts up Millcreek, Big & Little Cottonwood Canyons were a common event. Nobody could remember more or tell better jokes and stories than Hurley. With his natural good nature and approachable smile, he made friends easily and was always in demand. A special Thank you to the CNAs, nurses, and other staff at Interim Healthcare and Central Wyoming Hospice for their loving support and help. Services for Hurley will be held at a later date in Salt Lake City, UT. Red skies at night, sailor's delight. Forever remembered. Forever loved. Goodnight Papa.
