Henry (Hank) Washenfelder, age 84, of Casper, Wyoming, died Sunday May 9, 2010, at the Wyoming Medical Center. He was born December 19, 1925, the son of George and Elisabeth (Suppes) Washenfelder. As a native Casperite, he attended local grade schools and graduated from Natrona County High School with the Class of 1944. While at NCHS, he lettered in football and track and was a member of the National Honor Society and the "C Club." Following graduation from high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served with the Motor Torpedo Boat Division in the South Pacific. He was discharged in June of 1946. He was Deputy County Clerk for one year before enrolling at the University of Oklahoma in the fall of 1947. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting Major with Business Law and Economics minor. He accepted an accounting position with Stanolind Oil and Gas Co. in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was transferred back to Casper in 1951. After eleven years with Stanolind (now Amoco), he was hired by Provident Federal Savings and Loan as Comptroller. He remained with Provident Federal until he retired in 1987. While with Provident, he advanced to Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President. During his tenure in the Savings and Loan Industry, he served a year on the U.S. Savings and Loan League Board of Directors, President of the Wyoming Savings and Loan League, and President of the Wyoming Savings Service Corporation. After Hank's retirement, he accepted the position as Director of the Northern Wyoming District for the Census Bureau for the 1990 census. He spent two years with VITA (volunteers on taxes), as well as teaching AARP Defensive Driving Course for the past fifteen years. Hank was proud of his membership in the Casper Lions Club, having become a member in 1962. He was director from 1965 to 1967. He served the Club in many ways such as Parade Chairman, Parade Treasurer, Light Bulb Sales Treasurer, and member of the Lions Camp Board, Tail Twister, Second Vice President, First Vice President, and President. He also gave much time to the eye screening of elementary children. He found joy in giving back to the community and serving others through the Casper Lions Club. The members of the Club were friends whom he enjoyed so much. On September 3, 1951, he married Lesa Price of Clayton, New Mexico. Lesa was the "love of his life" whom he met in a freshman English class at the University of Oklahoma. First on his priority list was his wife and two sons.
