Helen Rake

Helen Marie Rake, 83, died August 29, 2018, with her family by her side at the Covenant Village Care Center in Westminster, Colorado. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the First Methodist Church in Casper, Wyoming. Visitation will held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Bustard's Funeral Home in Casper. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery following the service. She was born February 15, 1935 in Cody, Wyoming to Pool Otis (Buckey) and Eloise Harris. Her father worked for the Texaco Oil Refinery. Her mother was a Nurse. They moved to Casper, Wyoming when Helen was young. Helen spent many summers at the Homestead (Hat 6 Falls) in Casper, Wyoming with her grandfather Pop. She attended Jefferson Elementary and Natrona County High School. Helen had two children from a previous marriage, a son David and a daughter Linda. Helen living in Casper and working for Mountain Bell as a Telephone Operator met and married Newell Rake. Newell adopted David and Linda. A year or so later they welcomed son Newell Rake Jr. into the family. Helen always had a job, from cook to Girl Scout leader, bookkeeper at J.C. Penney's to Loan Officer at the Wyoming National Bank. She had many interests including family, bowling, gardening, sewing and reading, and she wrote three books of her own. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members. Helen was a very active member of the First Methodist Church, belonging to many women's groups and clubs, and worked with various charities. Helen is survived by her son, David Rake; daughter, Linda Kammerer; 2 grandsons, Rick Portz and Chris Rake; Granddaughter, Sarah Thiel and great grandchildren, Damon Hunt, Mackenzie Hunt, and Rylee Thiel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newell Rake Sr., and son Newell Rake Jr. Donations may be sent to the Casper Troopers Drum and Bugle Corp. .
