Hazel Phillips

Hazel Loree Phillips passed away June 26th, 2011 at Wyoming Medical Center after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. A beloved mother, grandmother, and sister, she was surrounded by family when she died. Hazel was born in Salt Lake City, UT on February 22nd, 1941 to Lawrence Franklin Ward and Mary Helen Sheldon. She moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1955. She graduated from Natrona County High School in 1960. During High School, she worked at the Rialto Theatre, where she met her husband Larry Phillips. In 1958, they married and had three children; daughters Connie and Linda, and son Kendall. She was married to Larry for 22 years, and were later divorced. For many years, Hazel ran an in-home daycare, where she cared for several children. She then worked at First National Bank, while also assisting in the family business, Wyoming Upholstery and Phillips' Furniture. Hazel eventually joined Wyoming Medical Center as a Monitor Tech on the Telemetry Unit, until she could no longer work due to illness. Hazel had a great love of all things science fiction, crafts, and reading of all kinds. Most of all, Hazel lived for her family, and her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her greatest treasures. - - Hazel is survived by her sister Helena Ward-Vieira, half brothers Monte and Robin Ward, half sister Sidnie (Ward) Lemon, daughters Connie (Brad) Edwards and Linda (Dean) Lemp, son Kendall Phillips, adopted son Ace Phillips, grandsons Cody Edwards and Steven Lemp, granddaughters Casey (Phillip) Legler and Vanessa (Ray) McDaniel, great granddaughters Kyla Edwards and Ashley Morgan, and great grandson Ryan Morgan. Hazel was preceded in death by her father Franklin Ward, mother Mary Helen Vieira, step-father John Vieira, sister Hester Marken, and half brother Lane Ward. Services are being held on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Bustard's Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National M.S. Society.
