Harlan Bailey

December 30, 1930 — October 16, 2017

Harlan Elton Bailey passed away October 16, 2017 in his home after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. Harlan was born December 30, 1930 in Troy PA, to Orson Andrew Bailey and Fannie Chase Bailey Crandle, both deceased. He was married to Dawn Smith on July 26, 1951, a marriage that lasted more than 63 years. Dawn preceded him in death in 2014. Harlan is survived by his daughter, Lucinda Renee Bailey, of Indian Hills, Colorado; and two granddaughters, Christina Rebecca Okamoto and Sarah Louise Okamoto, both of Centennial, Colorado. He is also survived by two siblings, James Crandle, of Troy, PA, and Jenny Lou Crandle Mintz, of New Orleans, LA, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Maxwell Earl Bailey, and sisters, Gloria Jean Bailey Ripley, Patricia Marie Bailey Bates, and Margaret Ann Martz Brown. Harlan enlisted in the US Air Force in 1951 and served 20 years, honorably discharged as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1971. During his service, he was a radio operator on various military aircraft, including one of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower's stand-by transports. He also served with the US Occupation Forces of Germany in 1952-1953. The majority of Harlan's military service was spent with Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs), joining at the start of the program. He was extremely proud of his service with the Air Force and continued with his support of the US Air Force's Sergeant's Association. Harlan and Dawn moved to Casper, WY, February 1, 1971 after he retired from the Air Force, when they opened their accounting and tax business, Data Generations Services. They retired from their practice in 2008. Services are 2:00 pm, Monday, October 23, 2017 at Oregon Trail Veterans Cemetery. Condolences can be left at www.bustardsfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Casper Humane Society, K9s for Warriors, or a charity of your choice.
