Hal Loghry

January 12, 1934 — September 11, 2013

Hal Alfred Loghry, 79, passed away on September 11th, 2013. He was born prematurely on January 12, 1934 to Nina Carpenter Loghry and Harlow "Doc" Loghry in Taylor, NE. Hal grew up with his sister Donna and numerous nearby relatives in Paradise Valley near Riverton. He graduated from Riverton high school in 1952, where he excelled in basketball and track. In 1953, he joined the Army. He was stationed in Germany as a radio operator and earned a slot on his division's basketball team. He traveled Europe extensively and was honorably discharged in 1955. He met Karen Mavis in Casper and they were married in 1961, divorcing in 1979. Hal earned his BS in education from the University of WY in 1965. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Hal began his teaching career in Midwest, WY where he taught biology, coached basketball, football, and golf. In 1974, he transferred to NCHS in Casper where he continued to teach biology and coach. He continued his education and earned his Master's degree before retiring in 1991. He enjoyed life after retirement, spending his time reading, socializing with friends, and golfing. He was an avid Broncos and Cowboys fan. He is survived by his son-Gary (Nicki); Daughters- Kelly (Jerry) Thorson and Erin (Tom) Potter; eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; Sister- Donna Loghry, all of Casper. Hal donated to many causes. He earned his 10 gallon pin (two and a half times!) by donating 64 times; providing 245 units of blood, plasma and platelets to others. He was also a tissue donor in the hope that he could save or improve the lives of others. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donors' choice or please consider blood donation and/or registering to be an organ/ tissue donor. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held on Oct 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Caddy Shack at the Community Golf course. A private ceremony will be held at a later date at the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery. Bustard's Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
