Gunn Peterson

February 4, 1940 — August 31, 2017

A memorial service for Gunn "George" Pete Peterson will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at Bustards Funeral Home, Casper, Wyoming. Mr. Peterson passed away peacefully August 31, 2017. He was born February 4, 1940 in Lemmon, SD., the youngest of four children born to George and Mildred Peterson. George spent much of his childhood on the family farm alongside one of his greatest influences his Uncle Harold. He joined the army in 1957 at the age of 17, and spent the better part of four years stationed in Germany. Returning from Germany he worked in mining in several states. He married Patty Plumb in Edgemont, SD., on Sept 28, 1962. After settling into life in Casper in 1968, he went on to raise four children, running his own mechanic shop for over 25 years, and pipe fitting in the off season. He was a hard worker, a laborer all of his life. Considered a jack of all trades he worked on anything and everything. Gunn loved to work. Being raised on the farm he could fix anything. Building his own shop and home was a great accomplishment to him. He had many friends, any of which he would help at a moment's notice. George suffered a massive stroke in 1995 which left him in a walker, and later wheelchair bound. This robbed him of some of his ability to do the things he loved but he pushed on, doing what he could. He was able to recently travel back to Germany and visit the base and barracks he stayed as a teen. Gunn was very close to his family and friends, with daily phone calls and frequent trips to visit, he loved traveling to North and South Dakota. If his phone wasn't working watch out! He was an avid hunter and even drew tags for the 2017 season, He loved to watch nascar, listen to music and ride his mower. He is preceded in death by his parents, George Hellick Peterson Jr. of Lemmon and Mildred Geneva Peterson of Lemmon, a son, Brian Peterson and a daughter, Jodi Peterson, both of Casper. He is survived by his brother, Lloyd Peterson, of Custer; sister, Phyllis Miller, of Custer; sister, Evelyn Reiger, of Lemmon; son , Lonn Peterson, of Casper; daughter, Leah Brauer, of Casper; grandson Brody Peterson, of Casper; granddaughter, Tristyn Phillips, of Casper.
