Greta Chantel Petz Alexander, Born May 25, 1927 passed away in Casper Wy. with her family by her side on Thursday October 26, 2017. Born to Edna Chantel (Scace) Petz and Henry Petz in Denver Colorado, Greta was raise on the family ranch in Lusk Wy. She graduated from Lusk High School in 1945 as valedictorian and went on to attend Mills School in California for one year and then returned to Laramie to attend University of Wyoming graduating Suma Cum laude with a degree in business and education in 1949. She was an alumnus of Kappa Kappa Gamma. After graduation Greta worked several office jobs as well as a legal assistant in Denver, Seattle and Casper. She also worked for Marathon Oil Company in Casper for a number of years. She found her true calling in teaching second grade at Garfield Elementary School in Casper from 1959-1966. After a brief marriage to Richard Alexander she adopted a girl, Theresa (Traci) Petz (Alexander) Radtke in 1966 and in 1969 she adopted a boy, Henry (Hank) Petz Alexander. In the 1960's it was almost unheard of for a single woman to adopt one child much less two, but having children was important to Greta and being able to give the gift of life and a family was most important. Not fond of flying, she insisted on driving for annual family summer vacations that included California, Seattle, Las Vegas, Minnesota and many, many other locations. Among her many joys in life she loved to collect Conrad Schwiering prints, Hummel collectables, yard work, chocolate and visiting the family ranch in Lusk Wy. She had much love raising her children and in later years her two grandchildren Timothy Michael Radtke and Logan Thomas Alexander. In 1995, Greta established the Henry Petz Agricultural Scholarship at the University of Wyoming as well as making a significant donation to the Sloan Kettering Cancer fund. Greta was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Casper Wy. She's survived by her children; Traci (Alexander) Radtke of Gillette Wy; Henry (Hank) Alexander of Casper and his girlfriend of 10 years Laurie Ann Marcovitz; her grandchildren Timothy Michael Radtke of Gillette Wy; Logan Thomas Alexander of Bozeman Mt. and Laurie's daughter Mackenzie Lynne Marcovitz of Casper Wy. She is proceeded in death by her parents; Henry Petz in 1958; Edna Petz in 1964; and sister Barbra (Petz) Reese in 1982. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for contributions to be made to Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper.
